I use it as well as Telegram and Discord. Different groups of friends on different platforms including a couple of family members that are active duty military overseas. The big advantage to me is that I can send a large amount of pictures and media over a WiFi connection whereas with basic text messaging sending media to some people would require me to be on LTE and eat into my data plan.
