gezter Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 EU Private Sector Productivity Falls Further In November Productivity in the European Union's private sector declined for the third month in a row in November, data from a survey by Markit Economics showed Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted purchasing managers' index (PMI), which measures productivity per worker, declined to 48.7 in November from 48.9 in October, marking the fastest fall in 32 months. The private sector contracted for the third consecutive month. A PMI reading below 50 suggests contraction in the sector, while one above indicates growth. In the Eurozone, output per employee decreased at the sharpest pace in two-and-half years, while in the United Kingdom, the only major EU country to record growth, output improved during the month. Among the major EU states, the strongest deterioration in productivity was recorded in Germany, where the manufacturing sector contracted at the fastest rate since March 2009.
